Darling defends £1 trillion gamble

Chancellor Alistair Darling defended his £1 trillion gamble to drag Britain out of recession, By cutting VAT from 17% to 15% ???

TBH I cannot see this helping anyone, or maybe the only winners will be the shops that don’t pass the cut onto the customers.
Will the tax cuts help you. Will 2p off tax get you running to the shops and spending money ???
Any thoughts?
